Sunday, my brother and I went to Orlando for my birthday, I once again had the pleasure of travelling an extended distance with some nice hybrid owners.

On the way to Orlando we traveled for a few minutes with a few Civic Hybrids, then we went for a fair distance with a Lexus RX400h.  On the way back we traveled a short while with another Prius at a fair clip before we got stuck behind a slower driver in the middle lane. On the final leg of the journey, we met up with a new Civic hybrid with "Save Millhopper Road" stickers on the trunk lid.  We traveled all the way back to Gainesville at about 15mph more than I usually drive on the freeway.  Once back in Gainesville we were travelling too fast for me to merge back into the right hand lane to make the archer exit; some truckers and slower drivers were too close together for a safe merge and exit.  After missing the Archer exit we lined ourselves up for the Newberry exit and blinked goodbye with the four way flashers to our latest travelling companions.

While in Orlando we came across a Saturn View Green-Line, several of the new Ford and Mercury hybrids (we saw a few on both legs of the trip too), and quite a few Prius (Classic and new), and a few Civic Hybrids.  I don't recall seeing any Accord hybrids (they're so hard to spot, with the tiny antenna on top).

This trip saw a highway fuel economy of 56mpg on the way to Orlando; if I had maintained my pace when we met up with the RX400h; fuel economy would have been two MPG higher, but it was more fun to drive with another hybrid than to get two points on the screen.  While in Orlando my brother and I met up with my mother, she drove about 20-30 miles made impressive gas mileage compared to her last time behind the wheel, she still isn't quite used to the continuously variable transmission.  Mom made about 46-50 mpg overall impressive improvement.  On the way back we saw fuel economy drop to 45-47mpg while zooming across Florida with the other Prius and the Civic Hybrid with the Millhopper stickers.  Until we got to the first toll booth headed back north the gas gauge still showed full, once back to Gainesville the gauge indicated a half tank.  This was a fun trip and I had an exciting birthday thanks to all involved friends, family and travelling companions.
