Marketwatch reports: 4/12In a roundtable with reporters here at the New York International Auto Show, Ghosn - who also runs Nissan affiliate Renault SA - said he "was the only guy" to question the move of some auto makers in recent years taking a headlong dive into the hybrid vehicle market. "I have some kind of satisfaction in being a little bit right on this one." Ghosn, known for his ability to execute a convincing turnaround at the once-ailing Japanese car maker, said he has been saying for years that auto makers need to be cautious in gauging the hybrid vehicle market and insists that much of the media just looked at him like he was "retarded." Earlier in April, Ford Motor Co. (F) began offering generous 0% financing incentives on hybrid SUVs.
Its not the hybrids people aren't buying, you have to sell people an appealing package. The Escape and Mariner hybrids aren't that appealing especially for their price. There is a market and price for everyone, if the product isn't a proper fit or is out of the price range of its target market, that product will flop. I am glad to see that Nissan changed position and the Altima Hybrid will be available nationwide.
