THV KTHV Reports : 2/9
With his 2006 Toyota Prius, Brian Camp is saving a couple hundred dollars a month on gas, which is one of the reasons he decided to get one. [...] In the past, Hybrid vehicle owners could get a tax deduction of up to $2,000. This year, as part of President Bush's energy bill, consumers can now get a credit up to $3,400 for purchasing a hybrid.
The difference between last year and this year is important to note when considering the deduction and credit feature. Make sure you understand the difference between a deduction and a credit if this is a reason that your considering one of these vehicles. The tax credit to me is just "icing on the cake" and not the main reason I would purchase a gas-electric hybrid. To me, the environmental benefits out weigh any monetary value.
